The Beyond 2022: Ireland's Virtual Record Treasury Research Project is an all-island and international collaborative research project, led by Trinity College Dublin, which seeks to re-imagine and re-create through virtual reality, the Public Record Office of Ireland building, which was destroyed in the opening engagement of the Civil War, and its archival collections. Working together, they will launch a Virtual Record Treasury for Irish history—an open-access, virtual reconstruction of the former Public Record Office of Ireland’s Record Treasury destroyed in 1922. Beyond 2022, working with the National Archives, has identified a large body of archival documents which contain valuable historical information relating to Ireland prior to 1922. These archives are in various formats, but the scope of this phase is primarily bound volumes. It is proposed to digitise these archival items to create digital surrogates with corresponding metadata. Beyond 2022 requests tenders to provide preservation and digital imaging services for relevant records held by the National Archives of Ireland.
