The M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy Project comprises a motorway route from the interchange with the N40 (Bloomfield Interchange) to the R613 Carrigaline to Ringaskiddy Road at Barnahely. From Barnahely, it comprises a single carriageway which will link to the east side of Ringaskiddy Village. The proposed M28 project is substantially online between the Bloomfield and Carr’s Hill Junctions and will require widening of the existing N28 road. South of Carr’s Hill the motorway route is offline, passing parallel and to the south of the existing N28 until it reaches Shannonpark where it turns in an easterly direction and continues south of the existing road as far as the R613 at Barnahely. After Barnahely, the proposed road comprises of a single carriageway that passes to the south of Ringaskiddy Village in an easterly direction that will provide access to a proposed new eastern entrance to the Port of Cork facility located on the eastern side of Ringaskiddy Village. A proposed service area will be located at the terminus of the Scheme at Ringaskiddy which will primarily serve as a refuelling and rest area for commercial vehicles. The proposed topographical survey covers an area of approximately 142.2 hectare which, in addition to the proposed laser scan survey, will inform the production of both advance works packages including specific elements of the completed works and the main construction works at the site.
