P1620- Sessiaghoneill Footbridge - TENDER FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A CONSULTANT FOR THE DESIGN OF A FOOTBRIDGE AT

Donegal County Council propose to build a new footbridge adjacent to and downstream of the Sessiaghoneill road bridge which will improve the pedestrian and cycle routes between Ballybofey town centre and the Sessiaghoneill town suburb. The new footbridge shall be a minimum of 3m wide and shall be a single span structure with an estimated span of around 15m across the Burn Daurnett River. The footbridge shall have a similar rise to the existing road bridge and shall be designed for both pedestrian and cycle use. The footbridge shall be constructed from steel and the superstructure shall have the capability of being dismantled and reassembled at another location in the future. Minimising both the construction and the future maintenance costs of the bridge will be a key design consideration. The new footbridge shall also link into existing pedestrian facilities on both sides of the bridge and the consultant shall design the 3m wide footway / cycleway to achieve this, the approximate length of this network is 75m, (12.5m to the south and 62.5m to the north of the bridge). Consultants should note that there are a number of constraints that include overhead services, drainage and a downstream pipe bridge that carries a gravity sewer will have to be considered as part of the design process and the consultant will be required to liaise directly with utility owners regarding their requirements.
