WI currently employs approximately 337 staff as at June 2019 dispersed geographically across the island of Ireland. This figure includes seasonal and temporary staff who are employed to provide support during the summer seasons. Approximately 80 are based in Northern Ireland, at Enniskillen and Coleraine, while the remaining 257 employees operate in Ireland out of offices and depots which include Dublin; Scarriff, Co Clare; Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim; Portumna, Co Galway; Tullamore, Co Offaly and Athlone, Co Westmeath. In circa 2003 the State Industrial Sector undertook a job profiling exercise for General Operative and related grades within Government Departments. The purpose of the exercise was to determine the relative job weight of each of the GO grades and assign the GO grades into a banded system comprised of 3 bands. The purpose of this job profiling exercise is to determine the relative job weight of each of the General Operative grades currently employed within Waterways Ireland.Waterways Ireland’s key objective is to map employees to an agreed 3 band which mirrors the State Industrial GO Band structure based on tasks performed, skills, competencies, experience, initiative and responsibility. Clear distinctions should be made between grades.
