It is implemented in Ireland by the ERC on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills. PISA assesses the reading literacy, science and mathematics knowledge and skills of 15- and 16- year old students. In each school, up to 44 PISA-eligible students are selected at random to take part. Students take a two-hour test of reading literacy, science and mathematics (with a main focus on reading literacy), followed by a set of background questionnaires. The school principals are also invited to complete questionnaires. In order to carry out the assessment, external test administration staff will administer the assessments using hired laptops.
