Fáilte Ireland is seeking insights, distilled from an analysis of projects around the world, which have had a transformational impact on regional or national tourism. This is in order to inform and, where possible, inspire investment in tourism in Ireland in the coming years and that may have the potential to put Ireland on the map for international visitors not currently considering or disposed to Ireland as a holiday destination. Overall, Fáilte Ireland wishes to gather learnings that can inform its future investment strategy and that of other investors (both public and private sector) about developments that have been successful elsewhere. We want to understand the key characteristics of successful transformative tourism projects, such as the Eden Project in Cornwall and the Guggenheim in Bilbao, from project initiation, concept development, funding model and partner mix to design, operational models and the visitor experience. These key learnings from successful transformational tourism projects will be delivered to Fáilte Ireland in a format that can be easily shared with tourism stakeholders and potential investors.
