MB 10/17 - Planning and EIA services relating to the development of a large scale Renewable Energy project.

Bord na Móna Plc is a publicly owned company, originally established in 1946 to develop and manage some of Ireland’s extensive peat resources on an industrial scale. Bord na Móna’s lands extend in total to about 80,000 hectares and are located mainly in the Irish midlands. In 2011 Bord na Mόna published a ‘Strategic Framework for The Future Use Of Peatlands’. The strategy reviews and assesses the land bank resource, identifies key issues, considers options for future land use based on the significant research carried out by Bord na Móna and other organisations, and establishes a strategy and framework for the on-going assessment of the land bank and the formulation of appropriate strategies policies and actions. The strategy clearly indicates that the potential for the development of renewable energy as an after-use of cutaway peatlands is significant. On this basis Bord na Mόna wishes to tender for provision of Planning and EIA services relating to the development of a large scale Renewable Energy project. The proposed project will be located within Bord na Móna’s land holding in the midlands area of Ireland. Provision of specialist services include but are not limited to the following: • Pre-planning Services; • Planning Application; • Environmental Assessment; • Application Monitoring; • Further Information; and • Planning Appeals. The precise scale of the potential project will be defined following detailed constraint analysis and therefore subject to change. Therefore at this stage the planning process may be directed to the relevant county council or to An Bord Pleanála within the framework of the Strategic Infrastructure Development process.
