In addition to all other H&S training initiatives, in the interest in delivering on positive welfare initiatives to all employees, the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) also delivers (on a cyclical basis – currently every 5 years) an Occupational Driver Training Course to all employees including those who are required to Drive for Work. This training requirement primarily stems from the SFPA’s obligation as an Employer (under the terms of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (SHAWW) Act 2005) to manage the risks that may arise when employees are engaged in Driving for Work by promoting and influencing safe driving behaviour and practices. Our Occupational Driver Training Course is, in addition to our SOP, Drivers Checklist, our Accident Checklist and our procedures for Reporting Accidents and Incidents / Near Misses, a key component in delivering on this obligation.
