On 27 February 2014, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform granted a licence to operate the National Lottery to Premier Lotteries Ireland. The award of the 20 year licence followed a competition which took place between May and October 2013. The licence was granted in accordance with the terms of the National Lottery Act 2013. Premier Lotteries Ireland took over the operation of the National Lottery on 30 November 2014.
