Undertake an evaluation of the Doodle Families Programme

We invite tenders to undertake an evaluation of the Doodle Families Programme. This evaluation will include a process and outcomes evaluation, with a particular focus on the following areas: • Process: The implementation of the programme, how it was delivered, the supports required to support high quality delivery, and how stakeholders felt about and experienced the programme. • Outcomes: Based on the programme’s logic model the short-term outcomes include increased effectiveness of school and community agencies working with families; increased parental awareness and skills to practice effective family literacy activities; increased parental knowledge of how to support their child’s learning; improved home-school relations between parents and teachers, and sustained and improved outcomes for participating children in relation to oral, written and digital literacy skills, school attendance and positive relationships with family and peers, and positive engagement with learning. We are also interested in considering how the longer term outcomes for the programme might inform the evaluation approach. These include strong community awareness of the value of family literacy; proactive school support of and engagement in family literacy activities; skilled parents engaged in their children’s literacy and learning; children motivated and supported to develop excellent oral, written and digital literacy competencies and high levels of child and adult literacy and educational attainment in Tallaght West and beyond. Methodology: A quasi-experimental design will be utilised for this research, involving a comparison and intervention group. Standardised measures will be used where possible to enable local, national and international comparisons and the research will build on the Doodle Den evaluation where possible.
