This procurement competition relates to an ongoing strategy to further enhance the visitor experience at the Athlone Castle. Westmeath County Council in association with Athlone Arts & Tourism submitted an application to Fáilte Ireland seeking funding which would further develop and improve the Athlone Castle offering for overseas visitors. The overall aim is to enhance the visitor experience at the castle and create a “must visit” attraction for Athlone celebrating the town and the region’s history and tradition while highlighting intricate connections with other sites in Ireland's Ancient East. The improved tourism product will appeal to a broader spectrum of visitor age groups and market segments. The introduction of multilingual facilities and further interpretative enhancements within the castle visitor centre will provide a better and more interesting visitor experience capable of attracting increased overseas visitor numbers. The key deliverables of the project are as follows; a) The provision of a multi-lingual audio guide in five European languages and English b) The development of a detailed downloadable guide and Smartphone app
