Highway Safety Developments (HSD) manufacture all types of signage for both commercial and road markets in Ireland and abroad. The facility is located in the village of Knocktopher in County Kilkenny. The facility started operation in the 1960s and has around 45 people working on-site and 15 people working off site.
The main operations are the manufacturing of signs, road safety equipment and outdoor equipment. HSD has a range of 30 vehicles that transport their products around the country.
HSD comprises of machine process for manufacturing metal elements for signage (poles, sign backs and sign stands etc.). The sign shop for merging printed sign material to sign backs, a print room x 2 for printing sign content.
Ultimately, the facility is operating as a complete supply chain for road and external signage by manufacturing, design and printing facilities in house on the site at Knocktopher, Co. Kilkenny. There is a large holding yard for the plant and machinery associated with the business. Incorporating vans, tractors, trucks and other relevant vehicles (primarily plant for erecting road signs and 12 vehicles for delivery of signage products trucks.) There is office area for staff with 12 offices including main reception. There are two separate electricity meters on site.
There are two factory areas on-site incorporating workshops, stores, office space, offices, printing rooms and storage. Cladding and insulation was improved in the bottom factory in May 2013.
HSD now require the refurbishment of their top factory building with upgrades to include cladding and insulation.
It is the intention of the Carlow Kilkenny Energy Agency on behalf of Highway Safety Developments to appoint a suitably experienced Contractor to complete the project in accordance with the accompanying tender specifications.
