Peer Review 2015 - Peer Review Service for the Health Research Awards 2015

The technical service required involves the search for international scientific experts to review scientific proposals received through the Health Research Awards 2015 (HRA) scheme. Last year 190 eligible applications were received to the HRA 2014 scheme and a total of 3,469 reviewers were contacted to review these applications. For national funding agencies such as the HRB, international peer reviewers play a vital role in setting standards and in benchmarking our scientific community to enable them to operate in a global context. Access to international peer reviewers is especially important for countries such as ours which has a relatively small research community and is at a stage of rapid development and modernisation of its research systems. The tasks to be conducted under the auspices of the peer review service include the following: - For each application received, the HRB aims to receive written feedback from a minimum of three international peer reviewers. Peer reviewers must be selected based on the applications specialist area and the expertise needed to review. Possible peer reviewers are identified following a detailed analysis of the proposed keywords, project abstract and project summary details and using online databases such as Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Science Direct or Biomed Experts. - Once sourced, potential reviewers must be checked for conflicts of interest prior to contacting them. - Invited Peer Reviewers who agree to review an application must be provided with access to GEMS. - Additional tasks will also involve sending reminders to peer-reviewers and examining peer review reports before publishing to online for applicants - Managing contact details of peer reviewers
