Lough Atalia Bridge - Consultancy Services for Lowering and Realignment of Road under Lough Atalia Railway Bridge

Galway City Council invites tenders for the appointment of a Consultant for the Lough Atalia Bridge Road Lowering project. At the West end of Lough Atalia, the Lough Atalia Road passes under the railway bridge immediately adjacent to Galway Railway Station. The road to bridge clearance is not adequate and this is exacerbated because the alignment of the road and the bridge do not properly correspond. The low 19th Century bridge structure comprises Cast Iron Arches and is a protected structure. Galway City Council have received funding from the Dept. Of Transport to lower the existing road underneath the Railway Bridge on Lough Atalia Road in order to allow a minimum clearance of 5.3m be achieved for vehicles passing underneath the arch. The proposed works consists of lowering the road and footways running under the railway bridge to cater for the safer movementof large vehicles under the bridge, the construction of an underground stormwater attenuation tank, stromwater rising main from the attenuation tank to connect to the Galway Harbour Enterprise Park existing drainage and underpinning of existing rail structure. The appointment shall be for Stages (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) (design, tender action, evaluation, award, construction and handover of works)
