SPU C 004-14 - Provision of Archive Data Technician Services

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht holds an archive of scientific data at its offices at 7 Ely Place, Dublin. Much of the material relates to proposed or designated Natural Heritage Areas (pNHAs and NHAs), Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs), as well as the records, survey reports and distributional data for habitats and species that underpin these nature conservation designations. NPWS has developed and continues to maintain a digital document management system (THEREFORE™) to hold such archive data, both as a security measure and to allow remote access to view files. During recent projects, much scientific information held in paper files has been scanned and uploaded into THEREFORE™. However, a large and continuing volume of new and additional information has amassed, and numerous other sources of material have been identified, all of which require to be added to the system.
