The Contracting Authority intends to procure the construction of a new prison facility on the vacant site adjacent to the existing prison at Rathmore Rd. Cork. Procurement will be on the basis of a design and build contract, using the Public Works Contract for Building Works Designed by the Contractor (latest edition), as published by the Department of Finance. The anticipated overall area of accommodation to be provided will be approximately 15,000 m² contained within a combination of two and three storey structures following the slope of the site. The accommodation will include approximately 160 cell units over two wings. The project will also comprise, but not be limited to, the other associated support units such as, catering, laundry, sports, workshop and education facilities. The project will include state of the art security systems for locking CCTV and monitoring functions, as well as communications. The project is intended to be BREEAM “Excellent” energy rated, or equivalent.
