NUIG/CON1163/2020 - Facilitator Services for Quality Review

Quality Assurance at NUI Galway is guided by key external standards and guidelines arising from European and National government statutes and in particular the EU Bologna Process, the Universities Act 1997 and Qualifications and Quality Assurance Act 2012. NUI Galway implements external standards and guidelines through a comprehensive Quality Assurance system focussed on over 300 internal Policies and Procedures. This includes policies regarding Quality Reviews of schools and units. This process involves independent peer reviewers assessing the quality of a unit or school and issuing recommendations for improvement. Quality Reviews are scheduled to occur approximately every seven years. NUI Galway will appoint a suitably qualified independent facilitator experienced in the area of quality in higher education. The facilitator will coordinate the review team visit* for quality reviews in a professional and independent manner bringing his/her leadership and sector experience to the process. The review team visit comprises mainly of meetings between the review team and the school/unit’s stakeholders e.g. students, researchers, heads of units, alumni, employers and University management.
