Tourism - Preparation of a Detailed Ground Investigation

Mayo County Council, are planning to construct a new foot bridge on Tullaghan Estuary, Co. Mayo, to carry pedestrian and cyclists safely over the Owenmore River. This survey will provide the background information to undertake a preliminary design and develop documentation for the statutory processes for the proposed bridge. In some cases the survey information may form part of a detailed topographical survey used for the detailed design process. The object of the site investigation fieldwork is to establish the following:- 1. The geological strata in which it is proposed to construct the bridge and road realignment. 2. Sufficient site data on which to verify the engineering constraints of the scheme; 3. The presence of any irregularities in the geological structure that may affect the proposed construction work; 4. Evaluate the strength at formation level of the proposed structure and embankment; 5. The suitability of encountered material for re-use; 6. Water levels in boreholes and trial pits and the optimum de-watering and control methods for road construction; 7. Determine the rock quality and profile; (h) Establish thickness of bound pavement layers; 8. Establish services location, types and level.
