7296 - Renewal of Coastal Defence Asset ‘Structure C’ Bray Head

The RFT has ended, you cannot answer the invitation.

Irish Rail require an experienced civil engineering contractor to undertake the renewal of coastal defence asset ‘Structure C’ located at 13 mile 1320 Yards on the Dublin to Wexford Line.

In more specific terms, this asset is located on Bray Head on the railway line between Bray and Greystones, Co. Wicklow. In brief, Structure C is composed of tiered gabion baskets, mass concrete wall and lower level masonry wall. It is located below track level and overlooks the Irish Sea.

The structure has deformed leading to a prominent depression in the gabion baskets and mass concrete wall. We believe this failure mechanism is due to the wash out of material directly beneath the gabion baskets. This is causing excessive settlement or void creation due to the removal of fines hence the obvious depression. Renewal works will involve the mobilisation and operation of a crane, installation of precast concrete units and gabion baskets. The contractor will also be required to install mini piles, sheet piles and rock anchors. Other works such as the construction of mass concrete walls, excavation and backfilling are also included.

All works must be undertaken in a coastal location which is accessible only via the railway line.  The majority of works must be undertaken during disruptive weekend possessions scheduled for late October and mid-November.
