Tender 01/2019 - Building Positive Relations – Addressing Community Tensions Though Dialogue, Mediation & Conflict Resolution

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council have secured £4.7m EU funding for the PEACE IV Local Authority Action Plan - Beyond Tolerance. As lead partner, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council will be responsible for the delivery of the PEACE IV action plan, which will promote peace and reconciliation in the local area focusing on three key themes: “Children and Young People”, “Shared Spaces and Services” and “Building Positive Relations”. As part of their responsibility under the “Beyond Tolerance” Action Plan, the Council is seeking to appoint a competent supplier to develop and deliver a comprehensive programme addressing community tensions though dialogue, mediation & conflict resolution in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area. The main objectives of the theme are as follows: The promotion of positive relations characterised by respect, where cultural diversity is celebrated and people can live, learn and socialise together, free from prejudice, hate and intolerance. The Programme will provide opportunities for sustained, meaningful and purposeful contact between individuals and groups of different backgrounds, on a cross border basis. Through this contact the Programme will result in a reduction in isolation, polarisation, division, prejudice, sectarianism, racism and stereotypes between/among groups. The Programme will pay particular attention to minority groups and groups who traditionally have been marginalised in society so that opportunities will be created that allow for a greater degree of participation and integration in society. Building on the experience of previous programmes, the development of strong local partnerships will be supported.
