CCC/002/18 - Rehabilitation and conservation of Daly Bridge

Daly (Shakey) Bridge is an existing single-span suspension bridge with a span length of 50.9m. The superstructure comprises a steel latticed truss deck supporting timber decking. The bridge abutments comprise concrete blockwork. The northern approach to the bridge comprises concrete steps and footway with a steep gradient extending from Sunday’s Well Road to the northern tower. The southern approach to the bridge comprises a ramp of concrete and masonry construction. Works required include: Phased dismantling of the latticed deck for removal off-site for grit-blasting, repair & repainting Full encapsulation of the tower will ensure no adverse affects on the environment result from the work and is required for quality control of the works. Removal and replacement of timber decking Removal of palisade fencing (north approach) and pedestrian railings (southern ramp) and replacement with railings in keeping with the original railings of the bridge Removal of block-work to existing in-filled abutment openings and southern ramp openings, including installation of new steel gates/grills.  Replacement of southern wall of southern ramp including installation of new arched openings Removal of existing iron railings (south bank) next to the original boat quay in front of the bridge approach ramp, off-site for grit-blasting, repair & repainting. Take-up and relay existing distorted flag stones to southern bank; New surfacing (reclaimed granite setts) to southern bank at the ramp; Upgrade of area surrounding the northern abutment Installation of new public lighting to the northern & southern approaches and bridge structure. New lighting columns on the south side ramp and north side approach Mounted luminaires within the bridge towers to light the tower structure Linear lights on the bridge railing the light the length of the bridge deck Luminaires mounted within the opened arches of the south side approach ramp
