SJHSNW0818 - HIQA Compliance Extension / Refurbishment works to St. John's Community Hospital Sligo

St John's Hospital serves Sligo Town & wider catchment area. The hospital has continuing care beds, palliative care, dementia care & community support. St John's Hospital was established as a residential centre in 1971 & currently provides accommodation for up to 115 residents. The building is single storey & located within Sligo town just off the N4 on the main Dublin Road. Other facilities include a Day Hospital, a Physiotherapy Dept. & an Occupational Therapy Dept. The HSE now propose a new extension, including internal alteration & refurbishment works to comply with statutory regulation SI 415/2013 and SI 293/2016. The new build work comprises 2 No. 10 bed ward extensions consisting of single ward beds & ensuite accommodation. Internal refurbishment of existing accommodation comprises the refurbishment of selected areas to the end of each of the existing ward blocks. This refurbishment work includes reconfiguration of toilets & shower / bath accommodation together with upgrade works to fire alarm system, emergency lighting system, general lighting, water services, heating services, extract & ventilation installations. Works will be completed on a phased basis within a live community hospital facility, with controlled decanting of wards for set periods. In order to ensure the continued operation of the hospital services a high level of management, safety, dust & infection control procedures will be required on site. It is anticipated that construction works will take approximately 12 months, commencing in Q2,2019.
