Main activity “Door-to-door” removals service of household effects and furniture for Departmantal staff Object of the notice: Interested parties should note that the Department is conducting a market sounding exercise. This is not a a Call for Proposals to companies or organisations to submit applications. This notice is to advise the market that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, proposes to seek expressions of interest at a future date from companies to provide removal services under aFramework Agreement to meet new and extended business requirements. The overall objective is for the Department to seek good quality, cost efficient, and reliable removal service operators to provide a “door-to-door” removals service (i.e. including packing and unpacking of household effects and furniture) for its staff who are transferred to and from postings overseas. Members of the Department’s staff are regularly posted from its Headquarters in Dublin, Limerick and Cork to overseas Missions under its planned postings system. Under this system, postings are normally decided in the Spring of each year with the majority of staff moves taking place during the months from June to September. In some cases staff already serving abroad may be assigned to another foreign posting (referred to as “cross-postings”). The Department meets the cost of shipping ordinary household furniture and effects (plus one car) and, where necessary, the cost of storage for limited periods at the time of transfer. There can be as many as 200 staff transfers’ annually to/from/between overseas destinations. The Department’s overseas representation is kept under review and is subject to further future changes, indeed numbers are likely to rise, as the department has recently announced the planned opening of 4 new Embassies and 2 new Consulates. The Department may also avail of the Framework for occasional shipments of furniture from Headquarters to its Missions overseas.
