UHL Hospital Redevelopment Works - Redevelopment & Reconfiguration Works to part of vacated former ED area at UHL (Lot 1) and also Redevelopment & Reconfiguration Works to the AMAU at UHL (Lot 2)

The proposed acute healthcare construction works will be tendered and completed in two separate lots, Lot One and Lot Two. Lot One involves the redevelopment and reconfiguration of the vacated former emergency department area at University Hospital Limerick. The redevelopment will provide a Medical Short Stay Unit (MSSU) of circa 390 sq m in part of the old ED whilst a further section of circa 390 sq m of the former ED is also to be redeveloped to provide outpatient space with the intention of utilisation as a fracture clinic combined with a new build extension of circa 110 sq m (mainly a waiting area). It is envisaged that a further section of the old ED will be in operational use for the provision of acute hospital services during these construction works. The MSSU unit will primarily consist of open plan areas with patient bays along with supporting facilities such as a pantry, staff base, toilet facilities, sluice facilities and a clean utility room . The OPD space will likely include waiting area, consulting rooms, plaster room, treatment / dressing room and administration space. Lot Two involves the redevelopment and reconfiguration of the Acute Medical Assessment Unit which is located at ground floor level in the existing OPD general area at University Hospital Limerick. It is envisaged that the works will primarily consist of the refurbishment of circa 585 sq m of existing hospital space along with an extension of circa 155 sq m into an internal courtyard area. Adjacent areas will remain in use for the provision of acute hospital services for the duration of the construction activities. The redeveloped AMAU will primarily consist of both individual patient treatment cubicles and smaller curtained treatment cubicle spaces along with ancillary support spaces such as toilets, sluice facilities, staff bases, admin space etc.
