In the 2013 NPWS Report to the European Union on the status of Ireland’ habitats and species, blanket bog and wet heath were assessed as “bad” and the National Peatlands Strategy(2015) states that management plans should be drawn up in consultation with local communities to ensure these important peatlands are managed to ensure sustainable use of the peat resource for the benefit of the community In addition, the European Commission, when announcing the outcome of the Fitness Check of the Natura Directives, indicated that it wished to see improved implementation of the Directives and improved stakeholder engagement. Introduction The contract is for the provision of assistance to DAHRRGA for the preparation and writing of a Concept Note for a EU LIFE Nature Integrated Project (IP) to be submitted by Ireland under the 2017 Call for proposals. The Concept Note will set out, among other things, the context, main objectives and actions of the IP itself. The Department is advertising in parallel for an ecological expert with a knowledge of the PAF and particularly peatland ecology and associated habitats who will assist with the preparation and development of the Concept Note.
