Tipperary County Council is seeking proposals from suitably qualified Service Providers for the provision of Undertaker Removal Services to both Coroners in Tipperary. At present, Tipperary County Council employs two Coroners, Mr. J. Kelly who is based in North Tipperary and Mr. P. Morris who is based in South Tipperary. Their core function is to investigate sudden and unexplained deaths so that a death certificate can be issued. This is an important public service to the living and in particular to the next of kin and friends of the deceased. A number of designated undertakers are currently used by the Coroners in both North Tipperary & South Tipperary and the expenses payable in connection with the removal or custody of a body shall be those which, in the opinion of Tipperary County Council are necessary and reasonably incurred in such removal or custody in accordance with the direction of the Coroner. In order to perform these services, the Council intends to form a panel of Undertakers on a Municipal District basis (Maximum of 3 on each panel) to provide the required services. The term of the panel will initially be for 2 years and the panel may be extended for a further period of 2 years at the discretion of the Council.
