TP2017 - PROPOSED UPGRADE & REFURBISHMENT WORKS TO OPERATING THEATRES at MERCY UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, CORK

Mercy University Hospital (MUH) is an acute hospital, which has 314 beds and employs approximately 1,000 staff. MUH offers a wide range of specialities which provide inpatient, day patient and outpatient services along with a 24/7 emergency department and an urgent care centre, serving a current population of approximately 870,000 people. The existing main operating theatres are located on the 4th Floor of the main hospital, with ward accommodation located directly under on the 3rd floor and plant room areas located directly over at roof level. The proposed works comprise alteration, reconfiguration and refurbishment works to Theatre No 1 and Theatre No 2, together with associated building services upgrade works. Works will be completed on a phased basis within a fully live acute hospital facility, with no disruption to services allowable. In order to ensure the continued operation of the hospital services a high level of management, safety, dust & infection control procedures will be required on site. It is anticipated that the construction works will take approximately 10 weeks, commencing in Q1,2017. Contractors will be required to comply with the code of practice for inspecting and certifying buildings and works as defined in SINo.9 of 2014 Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014.
