ITT16-023 - Master Fisherman Services

This is an open invitation to tender where suitably qualified applicants are invited to respond for inclusion in a Framework Agreement that will provide a short list of service providers. The tender will be evaluated in three lots as detailed in section 4 and suitable applicants will be selected for each lot. It is anticipated that the list will consist of between 2 and 10 suppliers per lot. Lot 1 - At sea - Participate in fisheries surveys to support fishing operations, supervise gear performance; provide fishing gear support as required as well as on board maintenance and repair of fishing gear (Demersal and Pelagic trawls) as required.This Lot involves 1-2 survey legs of c.12 days each aboard the Marine Institute’s research vessels or other vessels as required. The main surveys currently are the Irish Groundfish Survey (IGFS) in Autumn/Winter and the Irish Anglerfish and Megrim Survey (IAMS) in Spring. Primary tasks are working with the chief scientist, officers and crew to i) maintain and/or repair trawls during the survey; ii) advise on performance of the gear in the water via information coming from the trawl sensors to the bridge. Lot 2 - Ashore onsite - Construction, maintenance and/or repair of fishing gear (Demersal and Pelagic trawls) on site at the Marine Institute’s Galway Docks facility.Participate in the 4-5 week trawl repair and maintenance period which occurs over downtime mid-summer (Jul – Aug). Meshes, buoyancy, frame ropes, groundgear, sweeps and bridles are all checked and precisely measured against agreed net plans and any damage or wear repaired or replaced onsite. Lot 3 - Ashore offsite – Occasional technical support and trawl maintenance as required. As part of new projects, surveys or requests to FEAS, technical input in relation to survey trawls might be required outside of the regular scheduled work.
