St. Louis High School Rathmines - Emergency works to provide improved disability access to the existing school

The provision of a wheelchair accessible ramp, five platform lifts, one assisted user WC and two new elevators are required. It is proposed to locate the elevators to the front and the rear of the school. These are different wings of the building; each is three-storeys. The proposed elevators are external. This will cause minimal disruption to the structure and to the existing accommodation in the school; no decant requirements are envisaged. Five inclined platform lifts are to be fitted to five differing flights of steps (flights vary from 3-10 steps). There will be an amount of structural enabling works required to fit the platform lifts; two adjacent walls where the lifts are to be fitted against are not masonry and will require strengthening. An assisted user WC fitted to an existing ground floor room, and an adjacent room to be redecorated for resting.
