Project: Restoration/Refurbishment and Expansion of Farnaught Dispensary Farnaught, Mohill, Co. Leitrim for use as niche self-catering tourism accommodation. Promoters: Dolores & Vincent Reynolds, Tooman, Mohill, Co. Leitrim. Telephone: 087 2561129 (Vincent) 086 6078884 (Dolores) Property Description: The structure in question is a detached four-bay single storey structure, build around 1850. The premises were the former dispensary of the Lough Rynn Estate. The structure is in poor structural order or repair and could be described as semi-derelict. The building features a hipped natural slate roof with red brick chimneystacks. The windows are of timber casement construction with limestone cills, lintels and “block and start” surrounds. The entrance, which is a timber battened door with limestone steps, is contained within a projecting gable fronted ashlar porch with carved timber barge. The dispensary formed part of the assemblage of Demense related buildings associated with the Lough Rynn Estate. It still retains its original form, features and materials. It is similar in design with the various lodges, houses and other structures on the estate, which are also protected structures. The significance of the structure, socially and architecturally lies within its status within the Estate complex and its place within the heritage of County Leitrim. The promoters are seeking the services of an appropriately qualified multi disciplinary team led by an experienced and qualified conservation architect to assist in preparing: all necessary surveys; relevant historical research and documentation relating to Farnaught Dispensary building; design proposals for the protected structure and its setting; architectural heritage impact assessment; and other investigation and exploratory work as necessary.
