The primary objectives of the animal warden service and dog pound services will be to ensure the most efficient and effective deployment of resources to successfully enforce the provisions of the Control of Dogs legislation in the administrative area of Sligo County Council The Contractor shall perform all duties of Dog Wardens in accordance with the Control of Dogs Legislation. These duties shall include: • Door to door licence inspections and follow up • Log and investigate complaints • Impounding stray and uncontrolled dogs • Enforcement of Control of Dogs Legislation. • Carrying out inspections under the Dog Breeding Establishments Act 2010 • Implementing the provisions of the Sligo County Council Beach Bye Laws 2007 as they relate to dogs • Attending court and giving evidence on behalf of the Council in cases arising from prosecutions taken under the Control of Dogs Act or other related cases. • Liaising with Gardai and other relevant Local Authority Departments where necessary This list is not exhaustive. The duties relating to horses will be confined to the investigation of complaints. Any handling or seizing of horses will be carried out by specialist contractors. Other duties relating to animals will include dealing with injured wild birds and issues relating to the dumping of dead animals. Removal of dead animals will be done by specialised contractors The contract(s) shall be for an initial period of 3 years with the option of extension for a further period not exceeding 2 years, subject to annual performance and other reviews.
