The project will be a major town centre regeneration scheme that will implement a series of inter-related interventions designed to regenerate vacant and derelict fabric within the town centre environment, improve pedestrian infrastructure and linkage from existing car parking (and retail) facilities to the town centre and provide public conveniences. It will include: 1. Alteration of the former Leprechaun Bar to create a new through access and public conveniences including a changing places facility, 2. Restoration, alteration and extension of a former Department Store and associated outbuildings to the rear providing for: i. a new Digital Fabrication Laboratory (FabLab) and co-working Hub (CoLabora), office space, ii. a Social Space for Young People and Teenagers iii. a community Kitchen, iv. Communal storage, and v. A public realm courtyard with sensory garden. 3. Creation of a new Pedestrian Street and public realm park between Pound Street/Bank Place and the Supervalu Retail Complex, establishing a contemporary architectural feature that creates a car free, unique and striking environment for the movement of pedestrians, 4. The restoration and alteration of a stone outbuilding to a Creative Makers Hub for creative and craft industries; and 5. All associated ancillary works to include, development related signage & public art. Carndonagh’s built heritage presents an excellent opportunity for the placement of art within the town.
