7908 - 7908 - Design, Supply, Install, Maintain, and Monitor a Rail De-Magnetisation System

[EndedMessage]

Iarnród Éireann (IÉ)— Irish Rail is seeking suitably qualified candidates to participate in the tender for:

Design, Supply, Install, Maintain, and Monitor a Rail De-Magnetisation System in Portlaoise Rail and Sleeper Depot

The required system is to be installed “in line” with the welding line and is required to reduce the residual magnetic field strength in the rail to below an average value of 75 micro tesla when measured 150mm above the rail.

The system is required to operate automatically and all "before" and "after " magnetic field data is to be recorded and reviewed by the applicant on a daily basis to verify the systems satisfactory operation.

The applicant  is to provide training to IE staff  and is also required to maintain the system once installed.

The current process involves the welding together of typically 36m length rails to form a "string" typically 144m in length in the welding line and involves

(i) Rail End cleaning

(ii) Welding

(iii) Rail Press

(iv) Grinding

The De-Gaussing system is to be installed between the Rail Press and the grinding unit such that the rails pass through the unit during "string" manufacture.
