In the context of their work with the Department, staff members are expected to be active in promoting Ireland, building trade relations and identifying opportunities for the export of services as they relate to the key objectives of the Department as laid down in its Statement of Strategy, the Global Island: Ireland’s Foreign Policy for a changing world and other policy related documents. To do this, it is important that it has relevant, timely, reliable and accurate information to hand in relation to the current and projected politico-economic/business environment as it applies in all potential trading partners. It is vital that this information comes from reputable and authoritative sources, displays the required level of specificity and is received in a convenient, timely and prompt manner. Given the wide-ranging nature of the work of the Department, these requirements need also to be tempered with a need to avoid information overload. See Appendix No 1
