Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modelling, numerical modelling, and strength calculations using the OpenFOAM modelling system will be used to develop performance models that will assist to scale up an 8 kw pilot scale hydro-kinetic turbine to 25kw and 60 kw commercial scale models. Outputs of iterative CFD performance models be validated against data collected from experimental testing to support recommended turbine blade designs, algorithms to control rotational patterns, vessel housing and mooring designs and other parameters to optimise power generation from the commercial scale hydro-kinetic turbine devices. CFD modelling services will be required over a c. 24 month period, which will include supply and installation of test instrumentation to validate test unit performance against model predictions. Travel to testing sites will be required.
