The National Library of Ireland is entering into a renovation that will require the move off-site of Library's Prints and Drawings Collection for at least the period of the renovation. The Library's Prints and Drawings Collection contains approximately 100,000 rare, sometimes unique or irreplaceable, items dating from the 17th to the 21st Century. The unique nature of this Collection means that the storage conditions must be of the highest standards in security, environmental protection, fire and flood protection and mitigation against all other risks, and must observe best practice in management and use. Items in the Prints and Drawings Collection are in use, meaning that they must be accessible for delivery to Library users and for collection care and management activities by Library staff. To facilitate retrieval and use the storage provided must allow the cabinets, cases or boxes containing the items to be stored as is, and these must be accessible to Library staff either on demand or at pre-arranged times or days. Full requirements and technical specifications are provided on attached documents.
