Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) is seeking a cost effective method of monitoring fuel intake, fuel volume on board, GPS position and providing the information electronically, in real time, to a computer based recording and analysis system. It is envisaged that the equipment will be fitted by IÉ to the locomotive fleet (up to 55 vehicles) initially and to the 2600 & 2800 elements of the D.M.U. fleet (37 vehicles). Further expansion to the entire fleet could happen at a future date and it is intended, subject to securing price levels in the future, to use the same equipment types selected herein. Data collection, transmission, storage and analysis (Hosting) costs for 10 years forms part of this enquiry.
