This Competition relates to the purchase of seven (7) laser ceilometers to meet Aviation Modernisation and Automation Project (AMAP) requirements, with the optional purchase (at Met Éireann’s sole discretion) of an additional seven (7) laser ceilometers to meet synoptic AWS requirements. Met Éireann is the Irish National Meteorological Service and is part of the Government Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government. It is the leading provider of weather information and related services for Ireland. Its mission is to monitor, analyse and predict Ireland's weather and climate, and to provide a range of high quality meteorological and related information to its customers. The Technology Division of Met Éireann has responsibility for instrumentation and the management of the national infrastructure required for meteorological observations and measurements. Met Éireann has a number of airport stations with ceilometers at all sites. As part of a larger Aviation Modernisation and Automation Project (“AMAP”), Met Éireann is carrying out a modernisation and automation of its aviation observations. Over the past number of years, Met Éireann has developed an automatic weather station (“AWS”) system, featuring a laser ceilometer as an integrated component. The AWS polls the data message from the ceilometer periodically for ingestion into a cloud detection / cloud cover data table. The sensor data is encoded centrally for inclusion into synoptic code (“SYNOP”)
